To Keep or Not to Keep? Your kids moved out ten years ago, do you really need their toddler toys anymore? Let’s face it, you won’t need to move everything from the old home to the new. Decide what is junk and what to take.
Organize! Yes you’re going to need boxes. Lots and Lots of boxes. But make sure you get more than one size! There are three general sizes for moving boxes, Small, Medium and Large–each standard moving box is rated with a 200 hundred pound test. But There are Standard Specialty boxes for moving too! There are Mirror Pack Boxes For Those Breakable Mirrors, Dish Packs for all your Fine China, T.V Boxes for your precious Flat Screens, and even Wardrobe Boxes So Your Suits and Dresses Don’t get Torn or Damaged.
What to Wrap With What? Dont just set your Fine China in the box and think they will be safe. Wrap them in Bubble First, Specifically; the more breakable an object the smaller the bubble you want to use. 1/8″ Bubble works well for dishes. Other less-fragile items should still be wrapped, it is advised to either use a larger bubble wrap like 1/2″ or for a cheaper solution to use Packing Paper, also known as Newsprint. For Antique Items like Furniture, you will want to consider wrapping the items in Foam. Foam Comes in Roll form like Bubble Wrap. After You wrap anything you should either tape the wrap with Acrylic Packaging tape, 2″ wide or 3″ inch wide, or wrap with Stretch Wrap so everything stays where you want it to.
Lift With Your Legs Not Your Back! This one is pretty straight Forward. There are also slings you can purchase that allow two people to lift otherwise much-too-heavy objects, like large dressers and furniture. These slings are a great tool for low cost expense, and they can save you from a visit to the chiropractor.
Moving Essentials: We’ve mentioned some already, now let’s cover all the basics. Moving Boxes: Small, Medium, Large, Dishpacks-dishes, Wardrobes-for hanging clothes, Mirror Packs-Mirrors, T.V Packs-for FlatScreens. Tape: You don’t need anything fancy while 2″ Clear Acrylic Packaging tape will work, 3″ is recommended, But Don’t Forget a Tape Gun! Stretch Wrap is great For Wrapping over items that have been Wrapped with Bubble or Foam Or Packing Paper Newsprint. Also Stretch Film is great for wrapping Dressers and Furniture with Drawers so the drawers don’t fly out in the moving truck. There are also Moving Blankets for covering Furniture, Bed Mattress Covers to keep your mattress from getting dirty, Floor Runners so your precious wood floors don’t get scratched.
Where to Buy Moving Supplies? We recommend going to your local packaging store. In San Diego a great place to get anything you will need is, Excel Pac, on Production Avenue. You can visit them at Excelpacllc.com to see what I’m on about. We highly recommend staying away from big retail stores because their packaging products like boxes, stretch wrap and tape are usually WAY OVER PRICED, and they probably don’t have everything you will need.
Man and Woman Power! Moving is a physical job there is no way around it unless you are a Wizard or a Witch. Our final tip will solve all your problems and be the most convenient. Hire a moving company! They will supply all of the moving supplies for the job, they will be faster than you, and it just might save you that trip to the chiropractor.
We’re glad you talked about the key moving supplies we’ll need to gather before moving out. My girlfriend and I are moving in together in a few weeks, so we’re starting packing this weekend. I’m helping her pack her stuff, so I’ll suggest we start looking for different-sized boxes and bubble wrap.
It was interesting to learn that there are moving boxes aside from the three general sizes, such as mirror pack boxes that we can use for breakable mirrors and dish packs for our fragile fine china. I’m moving houses here in Liberty at the end of this month, so I need to start packing soon if I want the move to be seamless later on. I’ll be sure to keep this in mind while I look for where I can buy cardboard moving boxes here in Liberty before our moving day.
